What do you need to look for when purchasing a lens for the Sony Alpha 6000?
Before we start with our concrete lens recommendations, we want to give you a few tips to get started, what you should pay attention to when purchasing a lens.
The right lens for your connection
The Sony Alpha 6000 series cameras have a so-called E-Mount connector.
There are also lenses from Sony for the A-mount connection. Unfortunately, these lenses do not fit your camera, but only Sony SLR cameras. So make sure you always get the right connection when you buy.
All lenses recommended in this article have an e-mount connector and are specifically designed for cameras with an APS-C sensor. In addition to the Sony Alpha 6000, these include all successor models (Alpha 6300, 6400, 6500 and 6600), as well as the Sony Alpha 5000 and 5100 and the Sony cameras of the NEX series.
Use lenses for the Alpha 7 series on the Alpha 6000 series
Isn’t the choice of lenses big enough for you yet? Then you can also look around at the lenses for the Sony Alpha 7 series.
The Alpha 7 series cameras also have the E-mount connector, so the lenses also fit an Alpha 6000.
But that is not the way to go. You cannot connect the Alpha 6000 series lenses to an Alpha 7 camera. The lens fits the connector, but it’s just not optimized for this type of camera.
So please also check out our article on the lenses for the Alpha 7 series:
Image stabilization
Only the latest models in the Sony Alpha 6000 series, the Sony Alpha 6500 and the 6600, have an integrated image stabilizer. The Alpha 6000, 6100, 6300 and 6400 unfortunately do not have that.
An image stabilizer ensures that small shocks and a restless hand are compensated and you still get sharp photos. That is why it is very important to have one.

So if you have a camera without an image stabilizer, make sure that there is one in the lens. Most lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000 have been there, but unfortunately not all.
You can see this by the fact that the lenses say “Optical Steady Shot” or the abbreviation OSS. Of course, we always write about whether there is an image stabilizer in the lens.
Application
Basically, of course, you need to know what you want to use the lens for the most.
Each lens has strengths and weaknesses and unfortunately there is no lens that can do everything equally well.
So if you want to take portrait photos, look for a suitable lens with a high aperture. If you want to photograph landscapes, however, a very short focal length is important and if you want to photograph e.B. on a safari, you should opt for a long focal length.

The kit lens: Sony 16-50 mm, f/3.5-5.6An image stabilizer ensures that small shocks and a restless hand are compensated and you still get sharp photos. That is why it is very important to have one.

Standard lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000
The kit lens: Sony 16-50 mm, f/3.5-5.6
Many buy this lens directly in the kit with the Alpha 6000. Although kit lenses generally don’t have the best reputation, we think they’re a very good solution to start with.
Especially for beginners who take their first steps in photography with the Sony Alpha 6000, the kit lens is a good choice.
The focal length of 16-50 mm is sufficient for most applications and the luminous intensity from f/3.5 to f/5.6 is absolutely within the frame for a zoom lens of this price range.
A big advantage is the very compact design and the low weight of the lens and the integrated image stabilizer with just under 120 grams.
The recommended retail price for this lens is 349 euros, in retail it is usually available for less than 300 euros.
A single purchase is not really worth it here, because in the kit with the camera the lens is much cheaper.

The premium zoom: Sony 16 – 55 mm / f2.8
The Sony SEL1655G is the extra-class zoom lens for the Alpha 6000 series.
The focal length is similar to the kit lens, but this lens offers a continuous aperture of f/2.8 and is therefore significantly more luminous.
The image quality is excellent and the autofocus works particularly fast and precise with this lens.
With just under 600 grams, however, the lens is not lightweight and the price of about 1,200 euros is unfortunately not for every budget.
One big drawback: The lens does not have an integrated image stabilizer, which is a real shame for the price. We therefore recommend the use only on the Sony Alpha 6500 and 6600, as there is a stabilizer integrated in the camera.

The intermediate solution: Sony 16-70 mm, f/4
The Sony SEL1670 offers a wider zoom range than the first two lenses.
With a focal length of 16 to 70 mm, you are well equipped for many situations. The lens has a continuous luminous intensity of f/4 and has a high-quality Zeiss optics, as well as an image stabilizer.
The weight is about 300 grams and you have to reckon with price of about 750 euros.
Compared to the kit lens, this is definitely a significant improvement. Personally, however, in this price frame we would rather lean towards the 18 – 135 mm lens, which we will present in a moment.

Real zoom: Sony 18-105 mm, f/4
Sony E-Mount Lens SuperzoomThe Sony SELP18105G offers even more zoom, an image stabilizer and also a continuous aperture of f/4, which can be seen especially in the high zoom ranges.
The lens weighs relatively much at 426 grams. The price is less than 500 euros and is quite fine for this lens.

The new premium zoom: Sony 18-135 mm, f/3.5-5.6
Sony SEL18135The Sony SEL18135G with a focal length of 18 to 135 mm offers a lot of zoom and a luminous intensity from f/3.5 to 5.6. In the upper focal length range, this is slightly less than the 18-105 mm lens.
At 350 grams, it is also relatively light and therefore definitely a good alternative to the 18-105 lens. An image stabilizer is of course also installed. It also operates in a similar setting and currently costs around 520 euros.

Travel zoom 1: Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3
Tamron Lens E-MountIf you are looking for a real all-in-one lens for travel, then the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is a good choice for you.
The focal length range is suitable for almost all motifs. You can actually save yourself a lens change on the go with the travel zoom. An image stabilizer is also integrated.
At about 450 grams, however, the lens is also relatively heavy and you should definitely consider whether you want to carry such a hum at the small Sony Alpha 6000 with you.
If that’s not a problem for you, then this lens is definitely not a bad choice. It is priced at around 550 euros.

Travel zoom 2: Sony 18-200mm, f/3.5-6.3
Sony Alpha 6000 Lens Travel ZoomA nearly identical travel zoom is also available from Sony itself. There are really no big differences to the Tamron lens.
Which of the two you choose is ultimately a matter of taste or you just take the lens, which is just cheaper.
To the lens at Amazon
The 18-200 mm is also available from Sony in a special version for recording videos. The special version Sony SELP18200 has extra controls for a particularly soft video zoom, but unfortunately also costs a tick more, namely around 1000 euros.

Telephoto lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000
In the area of telephoto lenses, you only have two options for the Sony Alpha 6000.
In principle, however, it is also possible to connect a telephoto lens for the Alpha 7 series to one of the 6000 cameras. We have written our own detailed article on this topic:
Telephoto lens: Sony 55-210 mm, f/4.5-6.3
The choice of telephoto lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000 is limited. A relatively cheap but still good alternative is the Sony SEL55210.
With a focal length of up to 210 mm, you can already do a lot. The luminous intensity is not outstanding with f/4.5-6.3, but for a price of less than 300 euros this is to be hurt, especially since an image stabilizer is also installed.
The question, of course, is whether it makes sense to use a comparatively cheap telephoto lens and a normal lens for the Alpha 6000. In this case, we would rather buy one of the featured travel zooms than this lens.

Really a lot of focal length: Sony 70 – 350 mm, f/4.5-6.3
Sony SEL70350G Something different is the case with this telephoto lens, because it offers significantly more zoom.
With a focal length of up to 350 mm, you can also conjure up large-format motifs on your pictures.
Thanks to the integrated image stabilizer, the photos become sharp even at long focal lengths. The weight of 527 grams is of course not a small amount, but for a telephoto lens with such a large focal length, a really good value.
An image stabilizer is installed in the dust- and splash-proof lens and the image sharpness can also be seen. However, the luminous intensity decreases especially in the upper calorific value range.
The Sony SEL70350G costs just under 750 euros. This is a really good value for money.

Wide-angle lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000
The selection for wide-angle zooms is very small. In fact, there is only one lens specifically designed for the Sony Alpha 6000 series.
Premium wide angle: Sony 10-18 mm, f/4
sony-e-mount-wide-angle-objectiveIf I had to choose a wide angle lens for the Alpha 6000, then I would definitely choose the Sony SEL1018. The focal length, as the name suggests, is 10-18 mm and has a continuous luminous intensity of f/4, as well as an integrated image stabilizer.
The ratings for this lens are almost consistently very good. However, as is so often the case, quality has its price and it is around 650 euros.

Fixed focal lengths for the Sony Alpha 6000
In the case of fixed focal lengths, the choice of lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000 is much larger. Especially the third-party manufacturers such as Sigma and Samyang have a rather large selection in the program.
The low-cost fixed focal lengths for the Alpha 6000 usually do not have an integrated image stabilizer. But these lenses are really available for just over 100 euros.
Wide-angle fixed focal lengths for the Sony Alpha 6000
Wide-angle fixed focal lengths up to about 24 mm are particularly suitable for architectural and landscape photos. For fixed focal lengths in the wide angle range, the selection is significantly larger than in the zoom range.
Zeiss Touit 12 mm, f/2.8
Zeiss Touit 12mmIn the range of wide-angle lenses, for a long time there was only the 10 to 18 mm lens from Sony. But the 12 mm Zeiss lens is now a real competition.
Although it does not have a zoom, it convinces with an outstanding image quality and sharpness up to the edges of the image. An image stabilizer is not integrated, but this is not so important at a wide angle.
For this you have to put almost 800 euros on the table, but these are quite justified.

Samyang 12mm, f2.0
Samyang E-Mount Lens Wide Angle The manufacturer Samyang from Korea offers with the 12 mm wide angle lens with a luminous intensity of f/2.0 a great wide angle with a very good image quality.
However, this lens is more of a foradvanced photographer as it has no autofocus. So you have to focus manually and also the aperture is set directly on the lens.
In Germany, Samyang lenses are also sold under the brand name Walimex. Samyang and Walimex lenses are absolutely identical in construction.
So you can always opt for the cheaper lens in good conscience. Most of the time Samyang is a tick cheaper, so we have always linked the Samyang lenses in this article. The price for this lens is usually about 300 euros.

Sigma 16 mm, f/1.4
Sigma 16mmSigma’s 16 mm fixed focal length is specifically designed for cameras with AN APS-C sensor and is one of the best fixed focal length lenses for the Alpha 6000 series.
Especially the high luminous intensity with an aperture of f/1.4 is outstanding. The lens has an autofocus and guarantees crisp photos.
For about 400 euros, this is a really good price-performance ratio.
To the lens at Amazon
Samyang 16 mm, f/2.0
Samyang also offers a 16 mm fixed focal length. The other features hardly differ from the 12 mm lens.
If it is to be a little less wide angle, then this lens is a good choice. Overall, it should also provide slightly better image quality than the 12-lens. It’s also slightly above the price and costs around 350 euros.

Sony 16 mm, f/2.8
Sony E-Mount Pancake LensThe Sony SEL16F28 is a real lightweight. As a so-called pancake lens, it is extremely flat and naturally lightweight.
It is priced at around 250 euros. The lens is only available in silver, there is no black version.

Sony 20 mm, f/2.8
Sony E-Mount Pancake Lens The Sony SEL20F28, like the 16-series presented earlier, is an extremely narrow pancake lens.

Sony 24 mm, f/1.8
Sony E-Mount Lens 24 mm The Sony SEL24F18Z with Zeiss optics is the premium lens among the wide-angle fixed focal lengths. It is priced at 800-900 euros.
However, it scores with an outstanding image quality and an exceptionally good luminous intensity of f/1.8.
If you want to treat yourself and your camera to something special, then you are very well advised with this lens.

Standard lenses – fixed focal lengths for the Sony Alpha 6000
Normal lenses with a focal length between 30 and 35 mm are a very good introduction to the world of fixed focal lengths. Photos with a focal length of 35 mm correspond roughly to the normal field of vision of humans.
These lenses are actually suitable for almost all applications. We particularly like to use it for street, reportage and portrait photography.
Sigma 30 mm, f1.4
Sigma has another 30 mm fixed focal length on offer and it has it all. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN offers a luminous intensity of f/1.4.
The price is really cheap with less than 350 euros. Of course, you have to make a few smears, this lens does not have an integrated image stabilizer. Nevertheless, the value for money is really top!

Zeiss Touit 32 mm, f/1.8
Zeiss 32mmThe 32 mm from Zeiss is the second lens in the Touit series, which is available for the E-mount connection.
The image quality is, as is customary by Zeiss, very good. However, the autofocus is criticized more often than too loud and too sluggish, which should not be the case at a price of more than 500 euros.

Sony 35 mm, f/1.8
Sony Alpha 6000 lens 35 mm35 mm is our favorite focal length and the Sony SEL35F18 lens offers a very good price-performance ratio.
The luminous intensity of f/1.8 is very good and the price around 400 euros is still within the limits.

Portrait lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000
With a focal length of about 50 mm to 85 mm, fixed focal lengths are particularly suitable for portrait photography. Also in this area there is a wider selection of lenses for the Sony Alpha 6000.
Sony 50 mm, f/1.8
Sony Alpha 6000 Lens PortraitSony offers with the Sony SEL50F18B a very nice standard obj ektiv for the portait range. The open panel of f/1.8 allows shooting with very low depth of field.
The image quality is good, the photos have a nice bokeh and at a price of around 280 euros you can’t complain either.

Samyang 50 mm, f/1.4
Samyang lens E-mount 50 mmAlso Samyang offers a 50 mm lens for the Sony Alpha 6000. For around 350 euros it offers a luminous intensity of f/1.4 and a very good image quality.
However, you need to focus manually and adjust the aperture on the lens.

Sigma 56 mm, f/1.4
Sigma 56mmThis Sigma lens has a somewhat unusual focal length of 56 mm, but is still one of the top fixed focal lengths for the Alpha 6000 series.
The luminous intensity of f/1.4 is fantastic and the lens has an autofocus. You can get the lens for less than 400 euros, which is a really good price-performance ratio.

Samyang 85 mm, 1.4
Samyang also offers a portrait focal length with an outstanding price-performance ratio. From 250 Euros you get a lens with a luminous intensity of f/1.4.

If these are nuptits for you, then this lens is really a bang.

Samyang 8 mm f/2.8 Fish-Eye
Fisheye lens E-MountThe only fisheye lens for the Sony Alpha 6000 to date comes from Korean manufacturer Samyang. With the super wide angle focal length of 8 mm and an aperture of f/2.8, you get almost a 180 degree cutout on your photos.
We have this lens ourselves, but with Nikon connection, and always like to use it for special shots. It is priced at around 300 euros.

However, this also has its price, which is about 750 euros.
